Michelle De Alba is a designer who works with smaller communities in Jalisco & Guanajuato, to develop her designs collaboratively with families of artisans who have developed particular styles of ceramic production through generations. The result has been a mixing of different pottery traditions from the two Mexican states to create a beautiful and meaningful collection popular among designers and decorators. Enthusiastic about the manual and creative potential of clay, stoneware and the infinite possibilities different glazes afford, Michele believes in the bond that exists between designer, maker, and consumer. Every piece celebrates and recognizes handcraft and traditional pottery as an example of kindness and integrity, manifested in the collective efforts of all those involved in making it.

This handmade vase is crafted using traditional techniques passed down through generations of artisans in Mexico. Skilled artisans carefully shape locally sourced clay into the desired form, which in this case is a round jug with a sturdy handle. The pitcher is left to dry naturally in the sun before being fired in a kiln. After the first firing, the pitcher is coated with a glaze made from natural materials, including the same local clay used to create the pigment, which gives it a rich, earthy finish. The glaze is carefully applied by hand, and the pitcher is fired in the kiln again at a high temperature to ensure durability and longevity. The end result is a one-of-a-kind pitcher that showcases the beauty and artistry of Mexican ceramics, while also being a functional and practical piece that can be used for serving drinks or as a decorative item.
